IN CONVERSATION WITH FRANCO MASINI

interview by JANA LETONJA

Franco Masini has steadily built a cross-continental career that bridges Latin America and Spain, establishing himself as one of the most compelling young talents of his generation. The Argentine actor and singer first gained recognition through music and television before expanding into major Spanish-language series, including Rebelde and All The Time We Fall In Love, followed by last year’s film El Retorno. With over 2.1 million Instagram followers, he has become as much a cultural presence as a screen actor. Now stepping into a new chapter, he leads the upcoming series Amor Animal, set to premiere in March, while continuing to evolve as a producer and multi-hyphenate creative.

Amor Animal marks your latest leading role. What immediately drew you to this project?

I believe I was deeply impacted by the character. It portrays an individual who goes through trauma and strives to heal, fully aware of how challenging that process can be. It highlights the harsh reality of what it can mean to simply live. The character is overwhelmed and finds a sense of salvation through love. The project features an excellent cast and is led by a talented creator like Sebastián Ortega.

How would you describe your character in Amor Animal?

It’s a very sensitive character, one who wants to move forward. Overwhelmed by emotions, throughout the series, he learns to manage them. The character has an inner light that, despite everything that happens, he wants to maintain.

What sets this series apart from your previous work in Rebelde and All The Time We Fall In Love

This is a more dramatic role, unlike my previous two series which were comedies. Amor Animal is a drama that reflects the current situation of young people facing certain crises, where sometimes they don’t have the emotional tools to resolve them, but find support in friendship.

You began your career in music. How does being a singer influence your acting process?

I’ve always loved singing alongside acting. While acting is my priority and always has been, I’ve tried not to let my passion for singing interfere with my acting career. That’s why I fit it into my schedule, so I can do it between shoots and continue doing it, as I enjoy it a lot as a complement.

Acting will always be my priority, but there are projects where I can combine both things, and I enjoy it a lot as well.

What have you learned about yourself through playing romantic or emotionally driven roles?

I believe that over the years, I have learned so much, and learning is something that never ends. Each genre, whether romantic comedies or dramas, allows me to explore and discover new tools as an actor, and I use them as new projects come my way. I’m very grateful for the challenges that are coming my way.

You’ve built a strong international fanbase. How do you balance public visibility with personal authenticity?

I am very grateful to the audience that has been supporting me for so many years and grows with me. Of course, I always try to give back all the love they give me. In recent years, I’ve had the opportunity to act in several countries, and it’s always nice to receive affection or appreciation for my work in such different countries.

Social media plays a significant role in modern stardom. How do you navigate that space with intention?

Social media today is a fundamental pillar for staying in touch with the people who follow me, to communicate my projects, make announcements, and as a point of contact with people from all over the world. I try to make them a part of my life and use them as another tool to reach people, interact, and communicate my work.

You’re now also stepping into producing. What inspired that move?

I’m quite restless, and for a while now, I’ve been wanting to do a theater play for which I bought the rights, and I’m eager to form the team. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do, and I hope to make it happen in 2026.

Are there particular stories you feel passionate about bringing to life as a producer?

I really enjoy stories that focus on the strength of the bonds between people. I would love to explore that.

What has been the most transformative moment in your career so far?

It’s a career that constantly brings new things, new challenges, new teams, and new learning experiences. I don’t have a particular moment, but I feel that there are moments that have really marked me, like my first experience on television, or my first international project, where I had to move to another country. I really enjoy what I do and feel fortunate to work in something I love.
