BULGARI HOTEL LONDON AND LUXURY WITHOUT EXCESS

words MAREK BARTEK

At Bulgari Hotel London, the focus is on doing things well rather than trying to impress at every turn – although impressive it is. Set in Knightsbridge, just around the corner from Harrods, it sits comfortably within one of London’s most established luxury areas, but doesn’t rely on that context to define the experience.

The design, led by Antonio Citterio, keeps things simple. Rooms are larger than what you’d typically expect in London, with a palette built around dark woods, soft lighting and understated finishes. It feels calm and considered, without needing too many decorative details to carry the space. Layout and lighting are all thought through in a way that makes the rooms easy to settle into, rather than just visually appealing.

What stands out most is how consistent everything feels. From arrival to the rooms and shared areas, there’s a steady rhythm to how the hotel operates. Service is attentive, but not overly present, which allows the stay to feel more relaxed. It’s also noticeably quiet — something that becomes more apparent over time, especially given how central the location is.

The spa plays a central role. Spread across multiple levels, it includes a large indoor pool, treatment rooms and a gym, but more importantly, it’s a space people actually use. It doesn’t feel like an afterthought or an added extra, but something that’s integrated into how the hotel functions day to day.

Food and drink are handled in a similar way. The Italian restaurant Sette, alongside the Bulgari Lounge and Nolita Social, offers different settings depending on the time of day, but they connect naturally. There’s no sharp contrast between them — just a gradual shift in atmosphere as the day moves into the evening.

Bulgari Hotel London doesn’t try to redefine luxury. Instead, it focuses on making sure each part of the experience works as it should. In a city where many hotels lean on scale or statement, Bulgari’s approach ends up feeling more distinctive than it might initially suggest.
