OFÍCIO: TRADITION REIMAGINED IN LISBON’S HISTORIC CENTER

Since opening its doors in June 2021, Ofício has positioned itself as an unconventional tavern in the heart of Lisbon. The restaurant combines classic Portuguese dishes with modern flair and international influence, thanks to executive chef Hugo Candeias, joined by sous chef Miguel Araújo. Hugo brings global experience to the table, with a background that includes time at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in London and Albert Adrià’s kitchens in Barcelona. Ofício earned a Bib Gourmand in 2022, a recognition that reflects its approach - informal but thoughtful, with a focus on flavour, seasonal updates, and a playful attitude.

The space, designed by Spacegram and branded by Savvy, draws on the site’s layered past, from its convent origins to its modern reinvention. Tucked into Rua Nova da Trindade, the restaurant features a 24-seat terrace, a low bar with lioz marble accents, and an interior dining area that pairs warm materials with touches of blue velvet and art. The atmosphere is lively but relaxed, where diners can sit at the serpentine table with snacks and cold plates or settle in for a full meal. Even the menu invites interaction - scrawled notes, QR codes, and a custom playlist all add to the experience.

Ofício’s menu highlights Candeias’ inventive take on tradition. Dishes like raw Gambas à Guilho with bisque, pork belly with smoked eel, and veal tartare on grilled brioche are served alongside oysters from Neptunepearl and ham from regenerative farms. Guests are encouraged to play with textures and flavors, whether it’s mixing cuttlefish ink and choco quenelles or savoring monkfish with a mole-inspired sauce. Desserts, including the wildly popular Dona cheesecake, round out the offering. With an original wine list curated by João Pombo, the experience at Ofício is never predictable, but always satisfying.
